Purpose

Final draft of DCAT application profile for data portals in Europe (v 0.06) of was put forward and we need to asses it:

  1. DCAT AP itself
  2. it's relation to metadate about datasets we proposed for Vynos XXX in Slovakia

DCAT AP

DCAT AP relates to:

  • several models:
    • Asset Description Metadata Schema (ADMS)
    • CERIF for Datasets (C4D)
    • CKAN Dataset Schema
    • INSPIRE Metadata Specification
    • Schema.org
    • Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange (SDMX)
    • Vocabulary of Interlinked Datasets (VoID)
  • several application profiles:
    • Austrian Open Government Data Cooperation
    • Norma Técnica de Interoperabilidad de Reutilización de recursos
      de la información (Spain)
    • Project Open Data Common Core Metadata Schema (US)
    • WMO Core Metadata Profile (World Meteorological Organization)

The basic use case of the specification is a cross-data portal search for data sets, including cross-lingual search. Additionaly, it also covers metadata update propagation from Data Portals to Metadata Brokes (see "User Scenario 7 – Creations, updates, and deletes of catalog entries") and other use cases.

DCAT

DCAT AP builds on DCAT specification (Data Catalog Vocabulary (DCAT), version 12 March 2013, published by the Government Linked Data Working Group of W3C as a Last Call Working Draft with a deadline for comments of 08 April 2013).
